Port Gellhorn is Leonida’s forgotten coastline: once a tourist destination, it is now home to cheap motels, closed attractions, and empty shopping malls. Rockstar portrays it without romanticism, sustained by “cheap beer, painkillers, and gas station energy drinks.” It’s the darkest and most authentic side of rural Florida off the beaten path.
What is Port Gellhorn in GTA VI?
Port Gellhorn is the main city of Kelly County, in northwestern Leonida. Rockstar describes it as a former vacation spot that can no longer compete for tourists: all that remains are “cheap motels, closed attractions, and empty shopping malls.” The informal economy has replaced the tourism industry. The name had been circulating since the 2022 leaks, and Rockstar confirmed it in Trailer 2 (January 2025).
What Was Seen in the Trailers?
Trailer 1 showed the interior of the Starlet Motel, with Jason and Lucia in a room, in what appears to be the beginning of their relationship and possibly the prologue. The motel was identified thanks to the 2022 leaks. The Delights 'Cabaret' also appears. Wide shots reveal docks, warehouses, and industrial facilities.
Why does this matter narratively?
If Vice City is the epitome of excess and glitz, Port Gellhorn is its opposite: the Florida that was left behind. It portrays the crisis facing middle-class resort towns when tourism dries up and industry fails to take its place. It’s the perfect setting for the small, violent stories that lend authenticity to the open world.
