30fpsconsole target, per Rockstar North 12
Any PS5 or Xbox Series X|S runs GTA 6, and Rockstar targets 30 fps. The PS5 Pro has the most headroom and its listing marks the game as enhanced, though Rockstar hasn't said what changes. Ideally you want a 4K TV with HDR and a game mode, plus free space for the November 12 pre-load.

Which console gets the most out of GTA 6?
All four run it. What changes is the power headroom, the memory and the free space.

What we know about the game
- Rockstar North's Rob Nelson said on August 28 that the console target is 30 fps. 1
- Rockstar hasn't announced graphics modes or what improves on PS5 Pro. Sony only shows the "PS5 Pro Enhanced" label. 9
- Digital Foundry measured around 1440p upscaled to 4K at a stable 30 fps in the Extended Look, captured on a standard PS5. 5
- In the launch trailer, Digital Foundry again sees 1440p upscaled to 4K. 15
If the game runs at 30 fps, as Rockstar has said, extra power shows up as headroom rather than smoothness: the PS5 Pro and Series X have more GPU for resolution and effects. The Series S has less memory, and Xbox pitches it at 1440p.
What TV do you need for GTA 6?
You don't need the priciest set. These four features are the ones you'll notice in this game.
4K
The console outputs a 4K image: Digital Foundry sees about 1440p upscaled to 4K. A 4K TV shows that output as it is. 5
HDR
Brighter lights and reflections if the TV has strong HDR brightness. Rockstar hasn't detailed its HDR. 16
Game mode and ALLM
Cuts delay. With ALLM the TV switches to game mode by itself when the console asks. 17
120 Hz and VRR
Useful in other games. At a locked 30 fps they add little: many TVs only apply VRR from 40 or 48 Hz. 18
1440p, as measured by Digital Foundry; upscaling fills the hatched area. Pixels: 2560 × 1440 and 3840 × 2160, our own calculation. Digital Foundry 5
Frame: Digital Foundry (33.3 ms). Delay: good values according to RTINGS. Digital Foundry 5, RTINGS.com 26
In game mode, a good TV adds less than half a frame of delay. Outside it, even a good value reaches three quarters.

How much storage does GTA 6 need?
Rockstar hasn't published the size. This is how much each console leaves free before you install anything.
Measured by the press when each console came out. It can change with system updates. Push Square 4, Digital Foundry 11, GameSpot 14
As of November 1, 2026, neither Rockstar nor the PlayStation and Xbox listings show the game's size. The figures going around don't come from Rockstar or those listings, and we don't treat them as fact. PlayStation 9, Xbox 12
Expanding an Xbox Series console
Expanding a PS5: Sony's M.2 SSD requirements 21

An M.2 NVMe SSD, to show the format. Not a buying recommendation.
- Interface
- PCIe Gen4 x4, M.2 NVMe (Key M)
- Capacity
- 250 GB to 8 TB
- Sequential read
- 5,500 MB/s or faster (recommended)
- Form factors
- 2230, 2242, 2260, 2280 and 22110 (width and length in mm)
- Thickness with heatsink
- Up to 11.25 mm; Sony requires a heatsink
On PS5, a USB drive can store games, but PS5 games can't be played from it. 22
How long does GTA 6 take to download?
With no official size, the maths goes per 100 GB. Once the listing shows the figure, multiply.
Minutes = GB × 8,000 ÷ Mbps ÷ 60. That's the theoretical minimum: real downloads usually run slower.
Work out your download
Minimum time44 min(100 GB · 300 Mb/s)
Mbps means megabits, the figure your provider advertises (not MB/s). Enter the size once your store listing shows it.
Is 3D audio worth it?
It is optional: it changes how the game sounds, not how it looks.

3D audio on the game listing
- PS5 and PS5 Pro
- Tempest 3D Audio
- Xbox Series X|S
- Not mentioned
The PlayStation listing includes Tempest 3D Audio for GTA 6. It works with headphones and with TV speakers: turn it on in Settings, Sound. PlayStation 9, 24
The Xbox listing doesn't mention spatial audio. 12
