GTA 6: Take-Two Calls the Launch 'Exceptional' but Doesn't Provide Figures
Take-Two reiterates its forecast of 8,000–8,200 million for GTA 6 and calls the pre-order launch “exceptional,” but does not provide a specific figure.
GTA 6 still lacks an official pre-order figure, but Take-Two has already commented on the matter. In its report for the first quarter of fiscal year 2027, released yesterday, August 7, before the market opened, the company reiterated its forecast of $8.0 to 8.2 billion in net bookings for the full year and described the start of GTA VI pre-orders as “exceptional.” Not a single figure—neither in units nor in dollars.
What Take-Two Said About GTA VI Pre-orders
This was the moment that much of the community had been pointing to for weeks as the time when the first real numbers would be revealed. It was the first quarterly report since Rockstar opened pre-orders for Grand Theft Auto VI in June. The question was clear. The answer, less so.
“It’s been an exceptional start to pre-orders,” Take-Two said during its investor call, referring to GTA VI.
And that was it. No figures on the number of copies pre-ordered, no breakdown of revenue attributable to the game, nothing that could be compared to previous releases in the series. Take-Two has been avoiding providing specific metrics for the title for months leading up to its release, so this isn’t a surprise either: keeping anticipation high without revealing their hand is the usual strategy.
The Numbers They Did Provide (and They’re Not for GTA 6)
What is on record, however, is the rest of the business. And the quarter was weak.
| Metric | Q1 FY2027 Figure | Year-over-Year Change |
|---|---|---|
| Total net bookings | $1,390 million | -3% |
| Recurring consumer revenue | $1,169.4 million | -1% |
| FY2027 net revenue guidance | $8.0–8.2 billion | reiterated, unchanged |
Recurring consumer spending (what people spend on microtransactions, content, and subscriptions for games already on the market, such as GTA Online) accounts for 84% of Take-Two’s total revenue and has fallen 1% year-over-year. Nothing dramatic, but it’s not exactly the trend you want to see right before launching the most anticipated game of the decade.
What This Means for Players
The release date remains unchanged. GTA 6 is still set for November 19, 2026 on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, and that’s practically the only thing Take-Two has explicitly confirmed in the entire report. You can review the rest of the official details in what’s already been confirmed about the game.
For Take-Two’s numbers to align with the annual forecast of 8,000–8,200 million, the November launch has to be massive. There are just over three and a half months left, and a large part of that figure depends on a single quarter. If you’ve already pre-ordered your copy or are thinking about it, the important thing to know is that the date hasn’t changed by a single day: November 19 is still on.
The Question That Remains
“Exceptional” is the word Take-Two has chosen. It’s also the easiest one to throw out when you don’t want to reveal specific numbers. It’s possible that GTA 6 pre-orders are in fact off the charts (which wouldn’t be far-fetched, given the hype surrounding the game), or it could just be standard investor relations talk to keep spirits up until there’s something concrete to show. By the time the fall earnings report comes out—when the game has already been on the market for weeks—no adjective will do.
