GTA 6: Jerry Fort Survives an 11-Hour Lung Transplant
Jerry Fort, the GTA 6 TikToker, underwent an 11-hour lung transplant on August 9 and is still alive as of November 19.
Jerry Fort, the 25-year-old TikToker who went viral for his race against time to make it alive to the launch of GTA 6, has successfully undergone the lung transplant he needed to achieve that goal. The 11-hour operation took place on August 9, and his story went viral in a matter of days, with gaming media outlets picking up on the story.
An 11-hour surgery with his heart on the verge of failure
Fort had been suffering from interstitial lung disease, which required an urgent transplant. According to Dexerto, his heart actually failed at one point during the surgery, though the medical team managed to stabilize him and complete the procedure. He himself had warned, before entering the operating room, of how delicate the case was.
“It’s going to be very bloody, very dangerous. It’s a very rare case.”
This isn’t the first time he’s intertwined his health with his passion for gaming. Before the operation, he promised that, if he pulled through, he would livestream his first game as soon as he recovered enough to pick up a controller—and for now, that promise still stands.
The ICU Video That Racked Up 8 Million Views
On August 8, the day before going into surgery, Fort (TikTok handle: Void Only) posted a video explaining his situation and why he wanted to hold out until November 19. He complained, half-jokingly, about Rockstar’s delays right before risking his life in the operating room. That mix of real drama and fan humor helped the clip skyrocket to about 8 million views in just two days. This isn’t the first time a story like this has resonated with the GTA 6 community: the countdown to November 19 has been generating these kinds of human stories surrounding the game for months, though few with such a life-or-death outcome as this one.
Nearly $70,000 Raised on GoFundMe
The video’s impact also propelled the GoFundMe campaign launched to cover his medical and recovery expenses. It started with a goal of $15,000—a figure that was surpassed almost immediately—and has already exceeded $65,000, with recent figures bringing it close to $70,000. A large portion of those donations have come in since the video went viral, when the news spread from TikTok to media outlets specializing in GTA 6, such as Dexerto and GTA Boom.
What Has Not Yet Been Confirmed
Neither the hospital nor Fort’s medical team has independently provided any clinical details. Everything that is known comes from his own videos and the fundraising campaign, which are real and verifiable. This is an interpretation by those around him and the community that follows him—not an official medical report—though so far nothing contradicts it, nor is there any reason to doubt the account.
What is certain is that Fort is still alive and the countdown is still active. If his recovery continues as planned, he’ll fulfill his promise and be able to see Jason and Lucia, the characters who are the stars of GTA 6, live and in front of the community that has supported him all summer. In the meantime, we’ll just have to wait, just as we do for the rest of the news about the game everyone on the internet is most eager to play.
