Will GTA 6 come to PS4 or Xbox One?

If you have a PS4 or an Xbox One, bad news: GTA 6 won't be coming to those consoles. The game launches on November 19, 2026, on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S—and only on those platforms.

A point of clarification, since a lot of things are said carelessly here: Rockstar has never stated that “there won’t be a PS4 version.” What they have done is consistently name the same two consoles, from the December 2023 announcement to today, without a single exception in two and a half years of press releases and trailers. It’s an exclusion by sustained omission, which at this point amounts to a “no,” but it’s not a definitive statement.

Why not this time, if GTA V did come out on two generations of consoles?

Good question, and that’s the precedent worth looking at. GTA V was released in September 2013 for PS3 and Xbox 360, and fourteen months later, in November 2014, it came to PS4 and Xbox One. In other words: Rockstar has already made the generational leap once, but in reverse—it started on the old generation and moved up to the new one.

With GTA 6, it’s launching directly on the current generation. The recurring argument is technical: a massive map, ray-traced lighting, and a file size estimated at 150–200 gigabytes—all of which require fast solid-state storage and memory that 2013 consoles simply don’t have. That reasoning comes from the gaming press and estimates, not an explanation from Rockstar, which hasn’t said a single word about this.

What about the Nintendo Switch 2?

Nothing has been announced, neither by Rockstar nor by Nintendo. What we do have are rumors from leakers—NateTheHate mentioned internal technical tests, clarifying himself that testing does not mean a release; Nash Weedle and Shpeshal Nick have pointed to a port commissioned from specialists. None of this has been confirmed, and even those rumors place the hypothetical release in 2027—never on the actual launch day.

What about PC?
