GTA 6: Xbox Leak Suggests Online Mode Would Be Installed Separately from the Campaign

The GTA 6 listing on the Xbox Store separates the Story, Ultimate Edition, and Vintage Pack: the online component could be sold separately, as was the case with GTA Online.
A dataminer has just uncovered something that changes the conversation about GTA 6 just months before its release: the game's listing on the Xbox Store doesn't feature just one bundle—it features four. And for anyone who’s been wondering whether the online mode will be tied to the campaign or not, this is a major clue.
What’s Appeared on the Xbox Listing
X user GlowDevs was the first to notice the listing’s structure; fellow data miner SynthPotato expanded on the discovery shortly afterward. Among the entries (technically “entitlements”—the rights your account holds for each piece of content)—four distinct blocks appear:
| Component | What it appears to be |
|---|---|
| Story | The single-player campaign, featuring Jason and Lucia |
| Ultimate Edition Upgrade | The paid upgrade from the Standard Edition to the Ultimate Edition |
| Vintage Pack | The Vice City bonus content for those who pre-order |
| Extra | Unidentified; could be something as mundane as a language pack |
The existence of these four separate entries doesn’t confirm anything on its own. But if GTA 6’s online mode functions as its own “entitlement,” the door is open for Rockstar to install, update, and treat it as a separate product from the main story.
The Precedent That Sets Off Alarm Bells: GTA Online in 2022
This has already happened once. In 2022, Rockstar turned GTA Online into a standalone download for GTA V, separating the two products even though sales continued to count toward the total for the fifth game. If GTA 6 follows the same pattern, it would make sense for a game with the entire Leonida map to explore: separating the campaign and online modes would let each player install only what they plan to use.
The analysis of the leak itself sums up the problem with Rockstar: the company “hasn’t exactly said anything” about how GTA 6’s online mode will work.
What This Means for Your Gameplay
The practical implication is disk space, not price. If the campaign and online modes are separate components, you could finish the story in Vice City and delete those files without losing your online progress—or vice versa. On PS5 and Xbox Series, where free space is always an issue, this is good news if confirmed. What this leak does NOT say is whether online play will cost extra, whether it will arrive later than the campaign, or whether it will be free for everyone who buys the game.
What Remains to Be Confirmed
Neither the actual size of each component, nor the pricing model for online play, nor a release date for that mode has been confirmed. Rockstar is still keeping quiet, so all of this is based on data mining of a store listing—not an official statement from the company.
What is official, however, is the release date: November 19, 2026. Pre-loading on consoles should start earlier, and that’s when we’ll finally know exactly how many gigabytes to set aside. Until then, any figures circulating about the game’s size—including this leak—are just estimates based on the data currently available.
If you’re worried about space on your hard drive, the Leonida map page has a breakdown of everything confirmed about the game world, and the confirmed details list the rest of the information that Rockstar has officially released. Everything else, for now, remains in the “promising rumors” folder.
