GTA 6 has two playable protagonists: Lucia Caminos and Jason Duval. Rockstar explicitly presents them as a Bonnie and Clyde-style duo, and their story begins with a heist that goes wrong, leaving them caught up in a criminal conspiracy spanning the entire state of Leonida.

Lucia Caminos

She grew up in Liberty City and ended up in Leonida. Her father taught her to fight as a child, and it was precisely because she fought to defend her family that she ended up in Leonida State Penitentiary. The story begins the day she is released from prison.

Jason Duval

A U.S. Army veteran: he enlisted to escape a troubled adolescence. Upon his return, he ended up dealing drugs in the Keys, living rent-free at veteran Brian Heder’s shipyard in exchange for helping him with his extortion schemes. His relationship with Lucia predated her imprisonment, and he’s the one who picks her up when she’s released.

The Nuance of “the First Female Protagonist”

You’re going to read a thousand times that Lucia is the first female protagonist in GTA history. That’s not accurate, and we won’t repeat it here:

• The original 1997 GTA had four playable female characters (Divine, Mikki, Katie, and Ulrika), none of whom had voices or distinct personalities.
• GTA 2 on Game Boy Color featured Candy and Gretchen.
• In GTA Online, you can create a female character from day one.

What is accurate—and remains a historic milestone—is that Lucia is the first female protagonist with a voice and a mandatory presence in a main numbered GTA title. It’s not optional: she’s half the story.

Can you switch characters?

Yes, Rockstar has confirmed that you can switch between the two. What they haven’t explained is how: they haven’t shown the mechanism in any of their own materials. What’s being reported—free switching outside of missions and both characters together in scripted missions—comes from a store listing, not from Rockstar. Take it as likely, not as confirmed.

The six confirmed supporting characters

Rockstar introduced them with biographies on May 6, 2025:

• Cal Hampton — Jason’s friend and a textbook conspiracy theorist: he listens in on Coast Guard communications from his home.
• Boobie Ike — a Vice City legend who turned the streets into a legitimate empire: real estate, a club, and a recording studio.
• Dre'Quan Priest — “more con artist than gangster,” Boobie’s partner at the Only Raw Records label.
• Real Dimez — Bae-Luxe and Roxy, high school friends who made a name for themselves in rap.
• Raul Bautista — a veteran bank robber looking for people willing to take big risks.
• Brian Heder — An old-school smuggler from the Keys; he operates out of a shipyard with his wife, Lori.

Who’s voicing the characters?

Rockstar hasn’t announced it, which is typical for them: they didn’t do so before releasing GTA V or Red Dead Redemption 2 either.

What we do have are press reports, and it’s best to distinguish between them:

• For Lucia, a Bloomberg report based on documentation from the actors’ union points to Manni L. Perez. He’s the most heavily favored candidate, but this isn’t an official announcement.
• For Jason, the name Dylan Rourke is circulating, and that’s purely fan speculation based on comparing voices in the trailer.

Until Rockstar says so, neither is a fact.
