GTA 6: Rockstar's Official Photo Reignites the Basketball Rumor

The official "Vice City 03" screenshot from GTA 6, released in May 2025, shows Jason and Cal playing basketball—reigniting an old rumor about San Andreas.

GTA 6 is once again the talk of the community because of a detail that isn't new: the old theory that the game might bring back the basketball minigame from GTA: San Andreas. The spark was an image that Rockstar has had posted on its own press website for over a year, and which has been circulating widely again this week.

What the “Vice City 03” screenshot actually shows

The image is part of the official GTA VI downloadable content and is labeled “Vice City 03”. It was uploaded in May 2025 and depicts a residential area of Vice City with a fenced-in basketball court. In it, a group of characters can be seen playing: one is shooting a layup while others wait nearby with a ball. The community claims that two of them are Jason Duval and Cal Hampton—and that Lucia is watching from nearby—but this cannot be confirmed by the image itself: at the resolution at which Rockstar published the screenshot, those characters cannot be identified with certainty.

There is no scoreboard on screen or any interface elements overlaying the scene. It’s an environmental image, similar to other GTA VI screenshots showing the protagonists surfing or simply wandering around the Leonida map.

A rumor that’s been circulating for fifteen months, not a new discovery

What’s striking about this case is that there’s nothing recent behind the “discovery.” The @GTA6Intel account pointed this out shortly after Rockstar published the image in May 2025. More than a year later, in June 2026, the fan account @GTA6LeonidaHQ picked up on the detail and put it back into circulation. And just this week, it has resurfaced because an article by Vandal has brought it back to the forefront.

The image has been the same for fifteen months. The only thing that changes is who notices it and when.

Why the Community Wants San Andreas Basketball Back

The original minigame appeared in GTA: San Andreas (2004), where CJ could shoot some hoops on any street court on the map. With GTA 6 taking Jason and Lucia to Leonida, and with the game promising the most vibrant world in the series ahead of its November 19, 2026, release, much of the community takes it for granted that activities like this should be playable, not just part of the scenery.

It’s not an unreasonable expectation: GTA V already featured playable tennis, golf, and darts. But the leap from there to the “Vice City 03” court being that minigame is one that, for now, only the community has made. You can follow the rest of the theories circulating about the game while this one is either confirmed or falls apart on its own.

What Rockstar Hasn’t Confirmed

Neither the trailers nor any press releases mention a playable basketball minigame in GTA 6. The “Vice City 03” court could simply be street scenery: part of the same world-building that brings Leonida to life, even if the player never actually interacts with it.

So, as of now, this remains a community interpretation of a real image—not an announcement from Rockstar. If the minigame ends up being in the game, we’ll find out through an official update or by actually playing it—not from a wallpaper that’s been there since May 2025.
