Boats, jet skis, and the swamp airboat
Half of Leonida is water: the beaches of Vice City, the Leonida Keys, and the Grassrivers swamps. The watercraft class includes speedboats, jet skis (Seashark), and—a major new addition to the series—the airboat, the star vehicle of the fictional Everglades.
Why Are Watercraft So Important in GTA VI?
Because Leonida is a peninsula: Vice City faces the beach, the Leonida Keys are an archipelago, and Grassrivers is all wetlands. Much of the map can only be explored by water. Trailer 2 opens with speedboats, a jet ski, and a boat in South Beach.
The big new feature: the airboat
The most talked-about new detail is the airboat (a rear-propeller hovercraft), shown in Trailer 1 navigating the canals of Grassrivers. It’s a type of vehicle new to the series, designed to navigate the swamp where a regular speedboat can’t go. Its appearance confirms the fictional Everglades as a playable area with its own mechanics.
What other watercraft are expected to make an appearance?
Returning from GTA V/Online are the Shitzu Squalo (speedboat), the Speedophile Seashark (jet ski), the Tropic (recreational boat), and the kayak. They fit right in with the water sports scene in the Keys and the smuggling that Rockstar hints at in those “beautiful and dangerous waters.”
